Seasonal Experienced Tax Preparer

Preparing a tax return is much more than filling out forms. For many clients, their tax return is one of the most important financial events of the year. Our job is to make the process easier, reduce their stress, and provide knowledgeable guidance they can trust.

As an Experienced Tax Preparer, you will play an important role in helping our clients while contributing to the success of our locally owned Jackson Hewitt offices.

What You’ll Do

As a Seasonal Experienced Tax Preparer, you will prepare accurate federal and state income tax returns while providing knowledgeable, professional service to our clients.

Depending on your experience, returns may include prior-year, multistate, self-employed, rental, investment, business, partnership, and trust tax matters.

Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct face-to-face tax interviews with clients.
  • Prepare accurate federal and state individual income tax returns.
  • Prepare more complex returns based on your level of experience and training.
  • Review client documentation and identify additional information needed to accurately complete a return.
  • Explain tax returns, filing requirements, refund or balance-due information, and other tax matters to clients.
  • Answer tax-related questions and provide basic tax-planning guidance when appropriate.
  • Complete electronic filing and obtain required client signatures and authorizations.
  • Assist clients with IRS and state notices and provide audit support when appropriate.
  • Follow up with clients regarding incomplete or pending tax returns.
  • Answer incoming client calls through our call-routing system.
  • Assist with client retention, referrals, and business-development efforts.
  • Process client payments and follow established office procedures.
  • Support office priorities through teamwork and collaboration.
  • Mentor and assist less-experienced tax preparers when appropriate.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive client and company information.
Skills You’ll Bring for Success
  • Two or more tax seasons of previous tax preparation experience.
  • Experience preparing individual federal and state income tax returns.
  • Experience with self-employment, rental, investment, multistate, partnership, or trust returns is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of tax preparation procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Excellent customer-service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
