Position Overview
The Student Office Assistant for the departments of East Asian Languages & Cultures, French, Francophone & Italian Studies, German Studies, and Slavic and Eurasian Languages & Literatures (SEAFIG) provides administrative support and serves as a backup to full‑time administrative staff. The ideal candidate is a motivated student seeking long‑term employment and hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced office environment.
Job DescriptionResponsibilities include office support (70%) and event support & promotion (30%).
Office Support (70%)- Answer phones and greet visitors professionally
- Make photocopies, scan documents, and perform general clerical tasks
- Sort and distribute mail
- Maintain clean, organized public spaces
- Perform additional administrative duties as assigned
- Create and post updates on social media platforms and assist with departmental website updates
- Capture photos and videos at events, including evening and occasional weekend activities
- Update digital signage and refresh promotional materials around campus
- Provide logistical and on‑site support for key departmental events
- Previous office or clerical/administrative experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word)
- Experience using social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram
- Interest in foreign language studies
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience in photography and video editing
During the semester, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods, the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in at least 6 hours in the past spring semester, or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester with at least 6 hours, or (3) be enrolled in summer session, or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
