Position Overview The Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented student to support general administrative tasks and assist in the maintenance and coordination of KGS state vehicles. This position offers a great opportunity to contribute to the day-to-day operations of a vital research organization.
This student position has flexible hours, 10-15 hours per week, during business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday). Students must be available to work in blocks of at least three consecutive hours. For more information about the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) visit our website. This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform light physical tasks related to vehicle upkeep with or without reasonable accommodation. A valid driver's license is required.
Job Description 95% - State Vehicle Upkeep Assistance- Drop off and pick up vehicles for maintenance.
- Take vehicles through car wash, vacuum and light clean interiors.
- Refuel vehicles as needed.
- Assist in the check-in/check-out process for vehicle keys.
- Perform general administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and scanning documents.
Required Qualifications
- Professional experience requiring basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Teams, as evidenced by application materials.
- Professional experience with vehicle maintenance, as evidenced by application materials.
- Professional experience with data entry, as evidenced by application materials.
- Professional experience requiring the use of Microsoft Excel, as evidenced by application materials.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
