Position Overview

The University of Kansas, School of Music seeks a full‑time, academic‑year (nine month), non‑tenured Commercial Voice, Guitar, and Songwriting Lecturer to begin on August 18, 2026. The appointment is a one‑to‑three‑year academic‑year position, renewable based on unit needs and performance.

Teaching (70%)
  • Teach up to 16 students each semester in JAZZ 100, 121, or 221 – Applied Study in Commercial Voice and/or Commercial Guitar.
  • Develop (Fall 2026) and teach (Spring 2027) a new 3‑credit‑hour course in Songwriting.
  • Additional teaching duties may include MUS 280 – Introduction to Music Production and JAZZ 409 – Jazz and Commercial Music Combos.
Research/Creative Activity (20%)
  • Establish a research/creative agenda that fosters artistic growth and enhances the reputation of excellence.
  • Participate actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University.
Service (10%)
  • Work cooperatively in support of the School of Music and the University, including service on graduate and faculty committees.
  • Collaborate with other members of the faculty.
  • Recruit music majors and students pursuing other areas of study.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in commercial music or a related field, or a Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience as a pop/commercial music singer, guitarist, and/or songwriter.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States by the effective date of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching commercial music and guitar in individual or group settings, with additional experience teaching songwriting.
