Position Overview
There are two categories for the Student Math Pathways Tutor position within the Mathematics Department.
- Math Pathways tutor for MATH 105 and MATH 107.
- Math Pathways tutor for MATH 101.
- Provide tutoring for students enrolled in MATH 101, MATH 105, and MATH 107, depending on assignment.
- Assist students in understanding homework, course materials, and key mathematical concepts.
- Offer guidance on effective problem‑solving strategies and support mastery of foundational skills.
- Encourage student confidence and promote independent learning habits.
- Proctor common exams in accordance with program and departmental testing protocols.
- Grade exam materials accurately, consistently, and in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of exam content and student performance.
- Serve as a class assistant during scheduled course sessions.
- Support instructors with classroom activities, demonstrations, group work, and instructional tasks.
- Provide in‑class clarification of concepts and assist students during hands‑on learning.
- Help foster a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Completion of Math 116/Math 126 or higher by August 2026, as indicated in application materials.
- Strong proficiency in the English language, as reflected in application materials and during the initial interview.
- Completion of EITHER Math 365 OR Math 115/Math 125 (preferably with AP Statistics or similar) or higher by August 2026, as indicated in application materials.
- Strong proficiency in the English language, as reflected in application materials and during the initial interview.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
