Position Overview
The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy is seeking an individual to lead the Department of Pharmacy Practice to support the instruction, research, and clinical mission across multiple campus locations (Lawrence, Kansas City and Wichita). The Chairperson will remain engaged in teaching, research, scholarship, and service to further academic interests.
- Effectively execute University policies at the Departmental level.
- Provide leadership and oversight in all departmental activities, including faculty recruitment, retention, and development.
- Adjudicate personnel matters and serve as the administrative representative for grievance procedures for the Department.
- Oversee and enhance all departmental resources across multiple campuses.
- Supervise and annually evaluate faculty across multiple campuses in teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.
- Supervise and annually evaluate support staff.
- Appointment of adjunct faculty.
- Review and modify, in collaboration with faculty, the strategic plan for the Department in teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.
- Develop and support appropriate resources and faculty sites for School and Graduate programs through communication with the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and other administrators.
- Develop and enhance research, clinical, and educational relationships between the Department and its allied units within the University as well as appropriate external institutions and agencies.
- Prepare and submit the annual departmental budget in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy Practice Office Manager.
- Manage all departmental funds in accordance with School and University budgetary guidance.
- Initiate annual fundraising efforts to support departmental needs.
- Attend and complete University required trainings.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Dean of Pharmacy.
Teaching responsibilities are required and will be determined based on departmental needs. Normal teaching responsibilities are no more than the equivalent of 2 credit hours of instruction each academic year. Responsibilities may include coordination and instruction of didactic courses in the School of Pharmacy curriculum for the professional Pharm.
D. program and holding regular office hours to advise and mentor professional degree‑seeking students.
Faculty within the Department of Pharmacy Practice are expected to conduct research and scholarship on an ongoing basis. Persons are expected to define their research focus, seek internal and external funding, and maintain an active research program. Collaboration is essential both within the department and with other health‑care disciplines. Publication and presentation of completed research are expected, with work published in peer‑reviewed journals of national or international stature.

The position will support the profession, university, school of pharmacy, and department through roles on committees and organizations. This may include holding elected positions in professional organizations, serving on local, state, and national professional organization committees, advising student organizations within the school, and refereeing for granting agencies, journals, and professional association meetings.
Required Qualifications- Terminal degree in pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE‑accredited school; for pre‑2000 graduates, a BS degree is considered terminal).
- Licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Kansas or eligible to obtain Kansas licensure within six months of employment.
- Established record of research and service evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications, securing external funding, and/or presentations.
- Strong record of teaching and mentoring professional degree‑seeking students, graduate students, or pharmacy residents.
- Documented leadership experience in developing and enhancing relationships with community partners.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills demonstrated through application materials, interview, and references that reflect experience in creating collegial work environments.
