Position

Purpose:

To provide leadership, management, and supervisory skills that promote the educational development of every student.

Qualifications

* Licensure:
Must possess (or be eligible for) a Kansas building or district leadership license by time of appointment.

* Expertise:
Demonstrated experience in planning, organization, supervision, and evaluation.

* Skills:

Proficiency in curriculum/instructional leadership, personnel guidance, scheduling, school law, budgeting, and community relations.

* Physical/Emotional:
Requires effective speaking, hearing, and vision; mobility/stamina for long hours; and the ability to manage multiple complex problems simultaneously with a consistent temperament.

Core Responsibilities

1. Curriculum & Instructional Leadership

* Lead the development, monitoring, and accreditation of instructional programs.

* Approve master teaching schedules and personnel assignments.

* Use student assessment data to identify program gaps and implement improvements.

* Ensure the written curriculum is taught and supported by appropriate resources.

* Foster professional expertise by providing staff development opportunities.

2. Student Assessment & Support

* Systematically monitor student progress using objective data.

* Identify and support at-risk students through school-based interventions and community referrals.

* Ensure proper educational placement for all students.

3. School Climate & Relations

* Model high expectations and motivation for both staff and students.

* Foster collegial relationships and recognize the achievements of teachers and students.

* Solicit feedback from the community to gauge and improve school climate.

4. Operations & Workplace Management

* Maintain high visibility and establish an effective learning environment.

* Implement and enforce a fair discipline code according to due process and Board policy.

* Protect instructional time by minimizing interruptions and coordinating schedules.

* Supervise student behavior at all school-sanctioned functions.

* Delegate authority to ensure school oversight in the absence of the Principal.

5. Personnel Management

* Supervise and evaluate professional, administrative, and support staff.

* Assist in recruiting, screening, hiring, and orienting new staff members.

* Recommend the removal of staff members whose performance is unsatisfactory.

6. Communication & Outreach

* Keep the Building Principal informed of school activities and potential issues.

* Maintain ongoing communication with parents, students, and stakeholders.

* Act as a liaison to community groups to foster support for school objectives.

* Collaborate with Central Office and other principals to share expertise and resources.

7. Decision Making & Problem Solving

* Utilize the TPS Strategic Plan and Learning Principles to guide evidence-based decisions.

* Ensure compliance with district policies and state/federal regulations.

* Proactively identify and resolve problems before they reach a crisis level.

* Lead effectively during times of civil disobedience or school emergencies.

8. Building & Financial Management

* Assist with budget preparation, financial supervision, and local fund monitoring.

* Oversee school safety, facility security, emergency drills, and property inventory.

* Ensure accurate maintenance of personnel, student, and fiscal records.

* Manage the allocation of instructional resources (space, equipment, and supplies).

9. Professional Growth

* Stay current on educational trends via professional journals and organizations.

* Serve as a role model for professional behavior and cultivate teacher leaders.

10. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Designee.

Terms of Employment:
Salary and work year determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation:
Conducted in accordance with Board policy on administrator evaluation.
