The University of Kansas School of Music seeks a full‑time, academic‑year (nine month) faculty position as an Assistant Teaching Professor (non‑tenure track) to teach undergraduate group piano skills classes. The appointment will begin on August 18, 2026 and last three years, with potential renewal contingent on a satisfactory performance evaluation and Dean approval.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate group piano classes within a three‑semester sequence in a digital piano lab setting.
- Each course consists of multiple sections of no more than 15 students, typically 4–5 sections per course (e.g., PIAN 144, 148, 284).
- Fall teaching load is typically heavier than spring.
- Utilize piano lab technology effectively, including MIDI equipment, headphones, and software for demonstration and individual monitoring.
- Coordinate with faculty to align group piano objectives with the overall music curriculum and attend MEMT departmental meetings.
- Engage in scholarship aimed at improving teaching and learning, such as publishing results of inquiry, conducting workshops, and presenting best practices.
- Participate in committee work and other service activities for the School of Music, the University of Kansas, and professional organizations.
- Master's degree in music or a related field.
- Experience teaching group piano skills in individual and/or group settings.
- Proficiency in functional piano skills—including harmonization, improvisation, sight‑reading, score reading, lead sheet reading, and transposition.
- Complete the online application.
