Position Overview
The FMS Tour Ambassador supports the Film & Media Studies department by leading tours of Summerfield Hall for prospective students and their families. The position includes training and shadowing during the spring semester, with the expectation of taking on primary tour responsibilities in the fall.
Job Description80% – Tour Coordination & Facilitation
- Coordinate with the Administrative Associate to schedule and conduct tours on a regular basis.
- Lead engaging and informative tours of FMS facilities for prospective students and visitors.
- Represent the department in a professional and welcoming manner.
- Assist with preparing spaces for tours, including organizing materials and tidying shared areas.
- Help assemble informational materials for prospective students.
- Support additional light tasks as requested by FMS staff.
– Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods, including navigating stairs.
- Light cleaning tasks such as sweeping, dusting, and organizing spaces.
- Graduate student or FMS major/minor in sophomore year or higher, as indicated in application materials.
- Availability to work during one or more of the following times:
Mondays or Wednesdays between 11:00 am‑1:30 pm, or Fridays between 11:00 am‑4:00 pm. - During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods, the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester; or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours; or (3) be enrolled in summer session;
or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments.
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
