Position Overview
The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy is seeking an individual to lead the Department of Pharmacy Practice to support instruction, research, and the clinical mission across three campus locations. The role will enhance the program’s reputation and quality while allowing continued engagement in teaching, research, scholarship, and service.
This is a full‑time, 12‑month, unclassified academic staff position at the rank of Associate or Full Clinical Professor, located in Lawrence, Kansas. The appointment reports directly to the Dean of Pharmacy and is based on professional performance, research, and service excellence. Eligible candidates must be authorized to work in the United States by the appointment date.
Job Description Administration (50 %)- Effective execution of university policies at the departmental level.
- Leadership and oversight of all departmental activities including faculty recruitment, retention, and development.
- Adjudication of personnel matters and representation in grievance procedures.
- Oversight and enhancement of all departmental resources across multiple campuses.
- Supervision and annual evaluation of faculty across campuses in teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.
- Supervision and evaluation of support staff.
- Appointment of adjunct faculty.
- Collaborative review and modification of the strategic plan in teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.
- Development and support of faculty sites for school and graduate programs through communication with the dean and administrators.
- Facilitation of research, clinical, and educational relationships with internal and external partners.
- Preparation and submission of the annual departmental budget in partnership with the Office Manager.
- Management of departmental funds in accordance with school and university budgetary guidance.
- Initiation of annual fundraising for departmental needs.
- Attendance and completion of required university training.
- Other duties assigned by the Dean of Pharmacy.
Teaching responsibilities, determined by departmental needs, will not exceed the equivalent of two credit hours per academic year. Duties may include coordination and instruction of didactic courses in the Pharm.
D. curriculum and maintaining regular office hours to advise and mentor students.
Faculty are expected to conduct ongoing research and scholarship, define a research focus, secure funding, and maintain an active program. Collaboration within the department and across healthcare disciplines is essential. Publications and presentations in peer‑reviewed journals with national or international stature are required.
Service (10 %)Support the profession, university, school, and department through leadership in committees and professional organizations. This may include elected positions, serving on committees, advising student organizations, and contributing to professional meetings.
Required QualificationsAs demonstrated by application materials, work history, or interview:
Associate Clinical Professor- Terminal degree in pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE‑accredited school or, for pre‑2000 graduates, a BS degree).
- Licensed to practice pharmacy in Kansas or eligible to obtain licensure within six months of employment.
- Minimum of 3 years’ practice experience as a pharmacist.
- Established record of research and service indicated by peer‑reviewed publications, external funding, and presentations.
- Strong record of teaching and mentoring students, graduate students, or residents.
- Documented leadership experience developing relationships with community partners.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills creating collegial environments.
- All qualifications for the Associate Clinical Professor.
- Minimum of 6 years’ practice experience as a pharmacist.
- Demonstrated excellence in research, service, and teaching consistent with this rank.
- Experience as an academic department chair.
- Experience with academic budgeting.
- Experience managing teams across multiple locations.
- Experience leading in a newly unionized academic environment.
