GAI Consultants is seeking an Assistant Substation CAD Operator 1 to support Substation projects. This position requires working with engineering and other technical subject matter experts in all aspects of electrical substation and protections & controls design services. The successful candidate will perform CAD work of red‑lined engineering markups for various substations and/or protection and control engineering projects as well as project support working under engineering supervision.

- Opening, revising, plotting, and saving of drawing CAD files.
- Assist in compiling, collating, assembling, and verifying completeness of drawing and project document packages.
- Knowledge of plot profiles and user profiles in CAD package.
- Assist CAD technicians and CAD operators in the development of their skills as required.
- Ability to learn multiple software platforms including, but not limited to, AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Attend project‑specific meetings as required.
- Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and be able to work effectively under the pressure of deadlines and unexpected developments.
- Ability to work extended hours or after hours when required.
- Learning and helping to find ways to improve GAI Engineering CAD Standards.
- Effective communication with the project team.
- Ability to learn AutoCAD Electrical smart functions and relationships.
- Able to identify inconsistencies in drawings and communicate these issues of concern to his or her supervisor.
- Able to take and follow verbal instruction.
- 1+ Years of Experience.
- Associate Degree from an accredited Technical School.
- Basic 2‑D line work and text edits as well as ACADE smart functions. Plot and create PDF drawings. Perform red‑line edits.
- Follows basic QA/QC procedures.
- Assist with general office function such as printing and issuing drawings and drawing packages.
- Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
- No Management responsibilities.
- More independent completion of work assignments.
- Possess basic oral and written communication skills. Interacts effectively with other staff. Learns to master and accurately follow instructions from others.
