Position Summary & Responsibilities
This posting is for an Environmental Specialist Supervisor for the State Cooperative Program – Site Remediation Unit at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) within the Bureau of Environmental Remediation. The supervisor oversees and facilitates the cleanup of environmentally contaminated sites, manages a team of four Project Managers, and ensures compliance with legal and policy requirements. Core duties include:
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee the execution of projects in the Remedial Section.
- Prepare technical projects, designs, plans, estimates, calculations, inspections, testing, and data collection for contaminated site projects.
- Provide program development guidance, public relations, technical oversight, and tracking of program elements.
- Disseminate public information, rank priorities, update program status, and manage staff and contractor assignments.
- Procure contractors, manage procurement processes, and establish budgets.
- Ensure quality assurance, fairness, and adherence to agency guidelines.
- Set and track deadlines for document review and technical oversight.
- Assist the Section Chief with daily operations, internal planning, and policy development.
- Prepare internal tracking and program reports and provide oral and written briefings to senior management.
- Interpret federal and state statutes, regulations, and policies for staff and field personnel.
- Develop and prepare information, proposed rules, regulations, and technical information for legislative consideration.
Pay Range: $59,467.20 – $65,582.40 per year. Salary may vary based on education, experience, or qualifications.

Qualifications- Education: High School, GED (minimum) or higher.
- Licensing & Certification: Valid driver’s license required.
- Minimum Experience: Bachelor’s credential in environmental, agricultural, or natural sciences/resources and three years of related experience, or seven years of experience if eligible under SB 166 with equivalent education.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s credential in Geology, hydrogeology, earth science, geoscience, or related field.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Strong proofreading, editing, and attention to detail skills.
- Experience with personal protective equipment, ArcGIS mapping, sampling, logging, and data evaluation.
Annual physical certification required to confirm the ability to work with necessary protective equipment. Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is required within ten (10) days of offer acceptance.
