Roadway Project Manager – Kansas Division

The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills and experience in design of roadways, highways, and interstates. You will work on projects for State DOTs, local municipalities, and private clients on roadways, driveways, sidewalks, greenways, parks, multimodal improvements, and bridge replacements.

Hybrid schedule; work from any Kansas or Missouri office:
Kansas City, KS;
Topeka, KS;
Wichita, KS;
Manhattan, KS;
Lenexa, KS; or Kansas City, MO.

Key Projects Across Kansas and Missouri
  • K-27 Corridor Improvements – reconstructing ~9 miles of K‑27 on a new alignment, improving safety and operational efficiency.
  • US‑24 Corridor Management Plan – updating the plan to assess land use, access management, and transportation needs, guiding investment and safety improvements.
  • MoDOT Southwest District STIP Planning – supporting planning and coordination of the Southwest District STIP, scoping and prioritizing highway and bridge projects.
  • Marlatt Avenue Improvements – widening and reconstructing Marlatt Avenue to improve traffic flow, safety, and multimodal connectivity.
  • KDOT K‑32 & 4th Street Improvements – modernizing intersection and adjacent segments to enhance traffic operations and safety.
The Impact You Will Have
  • Serve as a project manager on transportation projects.
  • Manage project teams, budgets, and schedules.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Contribute to regional strategic growth initiatives.
  • Build relationships with DOT, county, and municipal clients.
  • Represent Benesch at industry and professional events.
  • Identify opportunities and lead strategic project pursuits.
  • Lead and collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Present findings with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Participate in business development and marketing, including networking and proposal preparation.
  • Research local/state regulations for transit planning.
  • Prepare and assist with grant applications.
What You Will Need
  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or related field and Professional Engineering License.
  • Excellent communication, written, oral, and client‑relationship skills.
  • Experience presenting before elected officials, advisory boards, and conferences.
  • Strong organization and leadership skills.
  • Prepare technical analyses in areas such as transit plans, operational analyses, multimodal studies, modal compliance, and transit grants.
  • Experience in project management, including cost control, budget control, and quality assurance/quality control.
  • Manage budgeting and execution of projects, supervising staff and subcontractors.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver complete, reviewable deliverables.
  • Experience with public bidding processes.
