The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) invites qualified candidates to apply for a Research Analyst I‑III position within the Incident Based Reporting Unit. The role involves researching, compiling, and publishing complex statistical data from local law enforcement agencies, state agencies, and other partners to support crime prevention and public safety initiatives.

This position is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and publishing complex statistical data.
Key responsibilities include:
- Research, compile, and analyze crime statistics to identify trends across Kansas
- Recommend improvements for data quality and collection processes
- Ensure partner agencies adhere to reporting standards
- Interpret and implement state statutes, regulations, federal public laws, and federal codes relevant to the unit
- Design and publish reports that reflect the mission of the Incident Based Reporting System
- Respond promptly to data inquiries and other related requests
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Education:
- High school diploma
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least two years of experience in collecting, evaluating, studying, or reporting statistical, economic, fiscal/budget, legislative, or administrative data
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Access and publication software
- Formal education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Kansas Incident Based Reporting or the National Incident Based Reporting System
Selected candidates will undergo a pre‑employment process that includes a polygraph examination, fingerprint‑based records check, and comprehensive background investigation. Current KBI personnel who have already completed screening requirements are exempt from this process.
