Basic Qualifications:
  • Free of conviction of any crime punishable by imprisonment in a federal or state penitentiary.
  • Good physical and mental condition.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age when recruit training begins.
  • Must pass vision and hearing standards.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Willing to live and work anywhere within the State of Kansas. Residency requests are considered.

Compensation:
  • Hourly Pay: $30.03 - $33.89

Trooper Trainees will be hired at $30.03/hour during paid training. Training academy will consist of 21 weeks of rigorous training; this training will be both physically and mentally challenging. Upon graduation the rate of pay will be increased to $33.11/ hour.

Individuals that meet the threshold, and are approved by executive command staff, may be considered for the opportunity to be a Lateral Transfer. These individuals will be hired at $33.89/hour.

After graduation Trainees will begin 560 hours of field training with a field training officer; approved Lateral Transfer individuals will complete at least 400 hours of field training.

The rate of pay will follow the Career Progression Plan based on years in service while employed with the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Training Academy: During the Training Academy, you will receive intensive classroom and practical law enforcement training. You will manage your personal and study time in order to complete assigned projects. You must take and maintain notes and handout materials. You will participate in small group and team exercises.
