Position
The Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library is looking for an Acquisitions Associate that has excellent organizational skills and is self‑motivated.
Responsibilities- Verify ordering information for newly arrived shipments of physical materials.
- Assist with organizing shipments of materials from loading dock to unpacking area in the department.
- Assist with unpacking and organization of new materials.
- Complete receiving process for new materials in the integrated library system (ILS). Verify quantities ordered and communicate discrepancies to appropriate staff within department.
- Program radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to encode tag with barcode information for each item. When needed, apply barcodes and RFID tags to items in addition to programming tags.
- Complete check‑in process for physical magazines and newspapers. Prepare periodicals for daily delivery to periodicals room and assist with placing new periodicals in collection.
- Apply property stamps classification and genre labels to library collections.
- Package, cover, secure and reinforce library materials for durability and ease‑of‑use.
- Change collection code status in integrated library system (ILS) to reflect current item location.
- Assist with collection maintenance duties like inventory, searching material lists, and performing data entry tasks that relate to collections.
- Maintain prompt arrival and efficiently and dependably maintain scheduled hours.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Competent computer skills in Microsoft Office 365, email, typing, 10‑key, and internet searching techniques, operating copiers, printers, facsimile, telephones, and audio/visual equipment.
- Ability to perform detailed work accurately and complete multi‑step manual processes repetitively with high accuracy.
- Ability to work independently on core duties and collaborate with others to meet deadlines for daily work and special projects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong service orientation.
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing in a professional manner with work colleagues and supervisors.
- Ability to manage schedule to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Ability to work scheduled hours, arrive promptly and maintain regular and reliable attendance.
A pre and/or post‑employment drug screen, criminal history record check and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.
Schedule40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Pay & BenefitsStarting hourly rate will be in the range of $13.92 to $15.31 depending on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits including health & dental insurance with pre‑tax premiums, and a retirement plan (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System KPERS). Group life, disability coverage and accidental death benefits are also provided. Other optional benefits available at employee’s expense include vision, life and cancer insurance and a deferred compensation plan.
