Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator I
The City of Topeka’s Water Pollution Control division is seeking a hard-working individual to join its team as a Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator I. This is an entry-level position that plays a key role in the department’s mission of protecting the health and safety of our community through water management. This position has an excellent field training program to support incumbents in obtaining the training and certifications needed for advancement.
Training, study time, certifications, uniforms and equipment are all provided by the City.
This is a night shift position after the initial training period and is steady, year-round employment.
What you’ll do:
- Operate, monitor and perform light maintenance on equipment used in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant facility.
- Collect and analyze samples of water, wastewater and sludge.
- Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance activities, and water quality reports.
- Perform general grounds and housekeeping tasks.
The ideal candidate:

Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Related experience preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license and city-insurable driving record. Please review the Insurability Guidelines
Entry rate of pay: $20.36 per hour, plus an additional $1.00 per hour for night shift hours.
