This role supports food safety, sanitation, and recycle efforts in the Topeka, KS facility. The position is responsible for maintaining clean, sanitary, and safe facilities by following the Food Safety Plan, Sanitation SOPs, and all applicable company policies and standards. Responsibilities include but are not limited to performing proper cleaning and recycling activities, maintaining sanitation chemical levels, handling and applying cleaning chemicals safely, following lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and safely operating powered industrial vehicles as required.
This is a physically active role that involves frequent climbing, walking, bending, crawling, and driving for a large portion of the work shift to help ensure the facility remains compliant with food safety and environmental requirements. The role also requires the ability to apply sound reasoning, exercise good judgment, and demonstrate effective problem-solving skills in both routine and non-routine situations.

Key Responsibilities- Follow all company Safety Rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), SSOPs, allergen controls, and hygiene requirements. (handwashing, PPE, tool control, non‑class policy, etc.)
- Maintain reliable attendance for assigned shifts.
- Use lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures when cleaning equipment and devices.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Participate in shift huddles, safety talks, and continuous improvement activities.
- Safely operate powered industrial equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks (as required).
- Work in all areas of the facility, including inside/outside and elevated walkways.
- Safely clean and sanitize production areas using appropriate chemicals and tools.
- Maintain organized and properly labeled chemical storage areas and secondary containers.
- Safely use tools such as brooms, shovels, squeegees, scrapers, cloths, vacuums, air‑guns, foaming sprayers, mops with chemicals to complete sanitation work.
- Clean and sanitize totes, brooms, shovels, and other plant equipment.
- Inspect and refill footbaths, hand‑soap, and hand‑sanitizer stations.
- Sort, organize, and dispose of production waste and recyclable materials properly.
- Clean floors using ride‑on and manual floor scrubbers.
- Perform minor maintenance on sanitation and production equipment.
- Complete all cleaning and sanitation documentation accurately and on time.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Consistent, timely attendance and availability to work full shifts.
- Able to work in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and handle stress effectively.
- Strong problem‑solving skills coupled with the ability to act. A "can‑do" mindset and attitude is a must.
- Flexibility to work overtime, additional hours, or adjust schedules as production needs vary.
High‑school degree or equivalent is required.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, GMP's and general instructions. Good communication skills are required.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out both oral and written instructions.
Physical Demands- Regularly required to stand, drive, and lift at least 70% of the shift.
- Lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs occasionally and 15‑35 lbs frequently.
- Frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling.
- Ability to work in both hot and cold environments.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to ingredients such as grains, flour, and yeast.
- Ability to climb steps and vertical ladders up to 10 feet regularly.
Must be able to perform all essential job functions safely, with or without accommodation. Strong emphasis placed on chemical handling and powered industrial equipment safety.

Additional RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED required. 1 year preferred. Prior sanitation experience preferred.
