Pay:
- RN starting at $35.87 per hour
- LPN starting at $25.63 per hour
Provide direct nursing services to children and youth in the Astra outpatient psychiatry youth program. Responsibilities include telephone triage, individual check-in with nursing assessment, verbal interventions, and assessment of presenting symptoms for walk-in individuals. The nurse will prioritize individual needs to ensure urgent medical concerns are addressed first, and will provide individual and family counseling and education regarding medications, diagnoses, and health conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide concise, thorough documentation of all interactions with youth and families, or interactions with other providers on the youth's behalf in the agency's electronic health record.
- Ensure that needed records are available to psychiatry department clinicians.
- Refill medications as directed by provider/standing order.
- Assist with lab orders, urine drug screens and pregnancy tests as directed by psychiatry department clinicians.
- Maintain medication administration record and ensure accuracy of staff administering medication for psychosocial group medication administration.
- Ensure medications are organized and stored securely for psychosocial group participants.
- Prompt completion of all clinical documentation of individual's contacts in the agency's EHR system.
- Work as part of an integrated treatment team collaborating with the individual served, family members or others they want involved in their treatment and other treatment team members (internal and external) to help support the individual in their treatment and recovery.
- Provide services that are recovery oriented and person and family centered, utilizing a strengths-based approach.
- Provide services to meet the whole health needs of individuals served.
- Utilize appropriate assessment instruments to help monitor the progress of individuals served and ensure necessary services are received in the appropriate intensity and duration.
- Utilize Evidence Based Practices (EBPs) as appropriate.
- Maintain the Heartstart Defibrillator and associated supplies and assist in education/protocols for its use.
- Coordinate schedules with coworkers, so that the nursing office has adequate coverage.
- Maintain effective operation of the nursing office.
- Maintain nursing supplies and first aid kits, ensuring out of date supplies are appropriately removed/disposed of, and necessary supplies are available when needed.
- Conduct nursing visits with clients billing 99211 as appropriate and directed by Director of Youth Psychiatry Services or Chief Medical Officer (RN only)
- Assist with engagement and retention calls to patients and families as indicated and directed by clinicians.
- Attend staff or administrative meetings as required.
- Coordinate and assist with nursing school students to meet learning objectives as directed by Director of Youth Psychiatry Services
- Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competence
- Approach interactions with individuals served and colleagues with a trauma sensitive lens
- Acts as an ambassador of the agency in the community setting, which may include doing public educational and informational presentations.
- Support and actively promote the vision and mission of the agency and the philosophy of the strengths perspective
- Completes required trainings
- Other duties as assigned, as qualified and trained for.
- Licensure as RN or LPN with psychiatric experience preferred.
- Familiarity with psychotropic medications is required.
- Experience with children and adolescents preferred.
- Must be trained in Case Management techniques.
- Successful completion of Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), Central Registry, and other applicable background investigations.
- Must possess a valid driver's license, a good driving record, current auto insurance and reliable transportation.
- Must have sufficient ambulatory capabilities to work with children/youth in the office.
