Locum Nurse Practitioner - Cardiothoracic Surgery

Healthcare Executive Placements, Inc. (HCEPInc) is seeking a Locum Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a contract assignment based in Topeka, Kansas.

Schedule: 5x8s, Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm, with call coverage responsibilities

Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks

Compensation:

Hourly Rate: $145.00 - $158.00 per hour

Summary:

HCEPInc is seeking experienced Advanced Practice Providers to support a growing Cardiothoracic Surgery program in Topeka, Kansas. This inpatient opportunity offers a collaborative surgical environment supporting heart, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients.

The facility is seeking two APPs to provide surgical support and share every‑other‑week call coverage responsibilities. Candidates with Cardiothoracic Surgery experience and Endovascular Vein Harvest (EVH) experience will be highly competitive.

• Provide inpatient Cardiothoracic Surgery APP coverage for heart, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients.
• Perform patient evaluations, assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing management of surgical patients.
• Provide perioperative and postoperative patient care in collaboration with surgeons and interdisciplinary care teams.
• Participate in inpatient floor coverage and management of assigned patient populations.
• Support surgical workflows and assist with Cardiothoracic Surgery service line operations.
• Provide Endovascular Vein Harvest (EVH) support when applicable.
• Document patient encounters accurately and timely in accordance with facility policies and standards.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary departments to ensure continuity of care and positive patient outcomes.
• Participate in call coverage and respond to patient care needs as required.

• EVH call coverage
• Inpatient floor call coverage
• Weekend call begins Friday at 5:00pm and continues through Monday at 7:00am
• Two APPs will share every‑other‑week call responsibilities
• Heart surgery patients
• Vascular surgery patients
• Thoracic surgery patients
• Average daily volume of 1‑10 patient encounters per shift

• 2 APRNs currently on staff
• Collaborative multidisciplinary surgical team

• Board Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) required.
• Active state license and applicable certifications required.
• Cardiothoracic Surgery experience preferred.
• Endovascular Vein Harvest (EVH) experience strongly preferred.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and patient care skills required.
• Willingness to teach and mentor APPs on EVH techniques highly desired.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced inpatient surgical environment.
