Position: ED Registered Nurse (PRN)

RN – Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough head‑to‑toe assessments and psychosocial evaluations upon arrival, determining severity of condition.
  • Assign triage categories to ensure timely care based on urgency.
  • Provide care to patients of all ages, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Administer medications accurately, adhering to the five rights of medication administration.
  • Oversee support staff such as Emergency Room Technicians and other healthcare personnel, ensuring collaborative workflow.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families, explaining procedures and treatment plans for emotional support and education.
  • Work closely with physicians and other staff to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment to prevent infection and promote patient safety.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development, attending staff meetings and engaging in quality improvement initiatives.

Position Requirements

  • Two years of emergency room experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure with the State Board of Nurse Examiners for their state.
  • Current BCLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC preferred.
  • Education appropriate for meeting age‑specific needs of patients, including procedures for stabilizing patients of all ages.
  • Validate clinical skills in orientation checklist and maintain annual clinical competency.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Must meet physical work demands (lift up to 50 pounds, frequent standing, walking up to 8 hours, bending, and twisting motions).
  • Willing to work in potential hazardous conditions, including exposure to body fluids and infectious diseases.

Working Conditions

  • Physical demands: lift and move up to 50 pounds, frequent standing, walking up to 8 hours, bending, and twisting motions.
  • Adverse/hazardous conditions: potential injuries from physical effort, chemical irritants, exposure to body fluids and infectious diseases.
