Essential Functions

Administers first aid, medication, and specialized medical treatments (e.g. oral suctioning, catheterization, tube feeding, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured children.

Assesses situations involving students' safety, abuse (physical, sexual, drug, etc.) and other health related issues for the purpose of identifying problems, referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.

Assists with or administers mandated screenings or reviews (e.g. vision, dental, hearing, 504 plans, etc.) for the purpose of communicating screening schedule information to parents/appropriate medical services, referring medical conditions and/or providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.

Collaborates with staff, parents, health care providers, and/or public agencies for the purpose of ensuring appropriate staff awareness of students' allergies/reactions or current athletic restrictions; promoting and/or securing student health services; advising parties of changes in student health status, recommending further medical intervention, providing health related information and/or complying with legal requirements.

Compiles and maintains files, data, and records in written or electronic form for the purpose of maintaining student health and related records, completing required forms and/or reports, and/or complying with county, state, or federal regulations and district protocols.

Conducts staff training and provides age‑appropriate student programs and/or activities in conjunction with classroom curriculum (e.g. appropriate responses to student health events in the classroom; student health/hygiene education, nutritional workshops, etc.) for the purpose of providing emergency response techniques to staff and supporting established student lesson plans.

Implements health care plans for students with health issues for the purpose of meeting the needs of students with chronic health issues and/or accommodation requirements.

Maintains student's confidential files and records (e.g. health care plans, accident reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing and recording information in compliance with legal requirements and professional standards.

Monitors students referred for illness and/or injury for the purpose of attending to student's immediate health care needs, initiating follow‑up care as indicated, determining student's ability to remain in school or making contact to send student home.

Participates in a variety of meetings, trainings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of gathering, conveying and/or sharing information, and/or improving skills and knowledge.

Refers students requiring additional medical attention for the purpose of providing required follow‑up treatment and services.

Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g. fights, suspected child or substance abuse, contagious diseases, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety, a positive learning…
