Emergency Medicine, RN Nurse
Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department (ED) – is crucial in providing immediate and comprehensive care to patients experiencing acute medical conditions or emergencies.
Responsibilities- Patient Assessment:
Conduct thorough head‑to‑toe assessments and psychosocial evaluations upon arrival to determine severity. - Triage:
Assign triage categories based on urgency of each patient’s condition. - Emergency Care:
Provide care to patients of all ages—including neonates, children, adults, and geriatrics—following established protocols and guidelines. - Medication Administration:
Administer medications accurately while adhering to the five rights (right patient, medication, dose, route, time). - Supervision:
Oversee the work of support staff such as Emergency Room Technicians (ERTs) and other healthcare personnel to ensure efficient workflow. - Patient Advocacy:
Communicate effectively with patients and families, explaining procedures and treatment plans to provide emotional support and education. - Collaboration:
Work closely with physicians and other staff to develop and implement patient care plans. - Infection Control:
Maintain a clean and sanitary environment to prevent infection and promote patient safety. - Continuous
Education:
Participate in ongoing training and professional development, attending staff meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
- Minimum two years of emergency room experience.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Current licensure with the state board of nurse examiners.
- Current BCLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS, ENPC, and TNCC preferred.
- Education covering age‑specific needs of patients (neonates to geriatrics) and emergency procedures for stabilization of all ages.
- Validate clinical skills outlined in the orientation checklist and maintain annual clinical competency.
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Team Player:
Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team. - Empathy:
Demonstrate compassion and understanding when dealing with patients in crisis. - Critical Thinking:
Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions in emergencies.
Physical Demands:
Lift and move up to 50 pounds, stand for up to 8 hours, with frequent bending and twisting motions.
Adverse/Hazardous Conditions:
Potential injuries from physical effort and chemical irritants, exposure to body fluids and infectious diseases.
