The City of Topeka's Utilities Department is seeking a Laboratory Technician to serve in its Water Division. This position collects and performs chemical and bacteriological tests to ensure quality of water treatment processes and compliance with state and/or federal regulations. This incumbent will collect water samples from homes and businesses throughout the City.
Primary duties include:
- Perform chemical and bacteriological tests to ensure quality of water treatment process.
- Collects routine water samples from homes and businesses throughout the city, which requires contact with the public.
- Prepare chemical reagents for laboratory and operational uses.
- Perform laboratory quality control procedures.
The ideal candidate has:
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment, terminology, and laboratory procedures as well as knowledge of water quality testing methods.
- An aptitude for technology or a willingness to learn.
- The ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and graphs and charts.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required; previous experience with drinking water analysis is preferred. Must be insurable within the standards set by the City of Topeka’s insurance carrier and possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
