Postdoctoral Researcher

Position Overview

The Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment at the University of Kansas seeks a full‑time postdoctoral research fellow. The successful candidate will work closely with Principal Investigator Dr. Tera Fazzino in the Health Behavior and Technology Lab on a project investigating the abuse liability of hyper‑palatable foods.

• Study Facilitation and Management (40%)
  • Adhere to research protocols and run daily lab tasks.
  • Organize, manage, and provide food stimuli for laboratory study on a daily basis.
  • Implement randomization procedures, crossover design features, and maintain the study blind for staff.
  • Conduct ongoing data quality control procedures.
  • Coordinate with the PI to ensure study rigor.
• Data Management and Analysis (30%)
  • Assist with trial pre‑registration.
  • Prepare data for annual review documents and progress reports.
  • Supervise and facilitate the research coordinator in producing regular study progress reports, including participant tracking and completion.
  • Process and manage study data, prepare and format data uploads to the central repository.
  • Conduct data analysis for projects as warranted.
• Scientific Writing – Manuscripts and Grants (25%)
  • Contribute to the preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication.
  • Contribute to the development of grants through literature searches and drafting of grant sections.
  • Prepare posters and oral presentations for national and international conferences.
• Other Duties (5%)
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external collaborators, sponsors, and monitors.
  • Perform varied administrative support duties as required.
• Additional responsibilities include supervising graduate students and research staff, receiving training in laboratory paradigms and regulatory science, and pursuing independent research opportunities such as conference and manuscript submissions.

• PhD in psychology, public health, epidemiology, or another related field by the start date or within six months of the start date.
• Research experience in relevant areas evidenced by curriculum vitae and written application.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated attention to detail from application materials and work history.
• Prior experience in coding to process and analyze data using statistical software such as R or SAS.

• Coursework and prior training in addiction science, clinical/health or behavioral psychology.
• Research experience in data collection, management, and analysis, and publications in related domains.
• Proficiency in data management and coding using R or related software, as evidenced by application materials.
• Strong critical thinking skills and ability to investigate and address questions or barriers independently.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to function autonomously within a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
• Experience with flexibility working in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong enthusiasm to learn new skills, concepts, methods, and techniques.

To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title or equivalent, a Ph.D. must be in hand at the start of the appointment. Appointments made without a certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires on an Acting basis not to exceed six months. The appointment duration will be extended upon final verification of the degree.
