Position Overview
The Mass Spectrometry and Analytical Proteomics Laboratory (MSAPL Core) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to serve as a research resource and collaborator in the utilization of mass spectrometry techniques for the analysis of proteins, protein mixtures, and small molecules. The successful candidate will operate high‑resolution hybrid mass spectrometers in conjunction with liquid chromatography.
Laboratory Instruments- Thermo Orbitrap Eclipse Tribrid Mass Spectrometer equipped with a nano‑LC system
- ACQUITY Premier/Xevo G3 time‑of‑flight mass spectrometer equipped with an Acquity Premier UPLC pump
- Thermo Q Exactive HF hybrid quadrupole‑Orbitrap Mass Spectrometer with Vanquish UPLC
- Thermo TSQ Altis Plus Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer with Vanquish UPLC
- Waters LCT Premier Mass Spectrometer
- Waters Quattro Micro‑GC Mass Spectrometer
- Operate high‑resolution hybrid mass spectrometers and associated high‑performance separation devices (30%)
- Utilize software for quantitation, searching, and general data analysis (20%)
- Implement and optimize sample preparation strategies for omics analysis (20%)
- Conduct experiments, document results, and prepare reports for clients and collaborators (10%)
- Perform instrument maintenance, scheduling, quality control, data storage and retrieval, billing for services, supply ordering, and liaison with instrument suppliers, engineers, and university support personnel (15%)
- Provide training to clients on data analysis, laboratory software, and instrumentation as needed (5%)
- Stand or walk for more than four hours per day performing bench work in various laboratories.
- Lift up to 20 pounds; frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds of laboratory supplies.
- Use both hands to perform experiments in the lab.
- Sit for six hours out of an eight‑hour workday while completing analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of additional experience in the field/area of research, or a master’s degree in a related discipline.
- Two years of experience in analytical techniques for biochemistry or chemistry.
- One year of experience troubleshooting experiments or instruments.
- One year of experience with data analysis.
- Two years of experience documenting and following procedures while using safe laboratory practices.
- Effective written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience in sample preparation for omics analysis by mass spectrometry.
- Experience in mass spectrometry.
- Experience with software tools, especially search engines.
