Job Title: Delicatessen Clerk
Department: Delicatessen
FLSA: Non-Exempt
General Function: Handle food safely and maintain a clean, orderly work area. Operate the department registers, receive payments, make change, and provide courteous customer service.

Accountable to:
District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home. Food Service Director;
Delicatessen Department Manager.

• Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service.
• Smile and greet customers; learn and use their names when possible.
• Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing items out of reach, loading/unloading heavy items, and noting customer suggestions.
• Answer the telephone promptly and take customer orders.
• Take customer orders at the delicatessen counter.
• Collaborate with co‑workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Review orders for the day.
• Understand and practice proper sanitation procedures; keep the area clean and neat.
• Review product appearance for freshness; ensure adequate food supply is ready and on hand.
• Develop or follow a production list; anticipate product needs daily.
• Prepare, finish, and replenish products as necessary.
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices.
• Run the department registers, receive payment, and make change.
• Remove trash promptly.
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress guidelines, and company policies.
• Report to work on schedule and on time.

• Wash dishes as necessary.
• Order product and supplies as needed.
• Deliver orders as required.
• Price products for customers as needed.
• Assist in other store areas as required.
• Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as requested.

• Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
• Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.

Less than high school or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related work experience.

• Move objects up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Perform activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Exposure to dust, noise, equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals. Fast‑paced environment.

Telephone, fax, copier, intercom system, computer, calculator, kitchen utensils, hot wrapping machine, garbage disposal, trash compactor, cardboard compactor, box cutter, slicer, scales, delivery van, pallet jack, hot wrapper, and knives.

Daily contact with the general public, customers, federal/state agencies for inspections.

The position is contingent upon a successful pre‑employment drug screen.
