YOUTH COUNSELOR SUPERVISOR, 3rd shift (10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.) QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience

  • Minimum of one year experience working in similar setting or supervisory experience.
JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a positive therapeutic atmosphere in which residents can demonstrate increasingly healthy functioning and growth. The Supervisor actively engages with the residents in their daily activities for the purpose of assessing and evaluating the behavioral expressions, emotional tone, and psychological states of the resident for communication with the rest of the treatment team. The Supervisor is responsible for knowing the policies, procedures and protocols of the agency and enforcing them with compassion, consistency and fairness.

The Supervisor is a part of the leadership team and participates in departmental and inter-disciplinary team meetings. The Supervisor is responsible for coaching and supporting the Youth Counselors in the accomplishment of their assigned duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Planning and Organizing Activities
  • Responsible for planning and coordinating supervision of all youth counselors.
  • Participates in a monthly on call rotation.
Supervisory and Training Activities
  • Meets with each Youth Counselor at regular intervals on an individual basis and as needed for supervision and gives a written performance evaluation annually.
  • Provides immediate and follow‑up feedback to Youth Counselors on performance. Documents supervisory interactions.
  • Assigns tasks to Youth Counselors on duty.
  • Oversees, leads, reviews, assists and ensures that all tasks are completed before shift change.
  • Completes or directs completion of shift report, shift logs, and all necessary documentation.
  • Participates in mandatory meetings and training including CPR, Basic First Aid, and SCM Training.
  • Role models adherence to Florence Crittenton policies and oversees Youth Counselors consistently adhering to all agency policies and procedures.
  • Assures appropriate shift staffing.
  • Responsible for communication between shifts and from other departments.
  • Completes or directs completion of assigned projects.
Administrative Activities
  • Reports directly to Residential Director.
  • Facilitates shift change meetings, ensuring clear communication between shifts regarding tasks, pertinent information, or resident needs.
  • Supports leadership and staff in special projects.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply all Florence Crittenton policies, procedures and protocols and hold Youth Counselors accountable.
  • Ability to carry out the daily structure to increase predictability and consistency in the milieu.
  • Actively engage with clients in the milieu.
  • Ability to coach through demonstration and role modeling.
  • Ability to observe the environment and engage in critical thinking.
  • Model and promote the use of DBT concepts and language within the milieu.
  • Knowledge of positive parenting techniques, including effective discipline as it relates to children aged six to eighteen.
  • Knowledge of child adolescent growth and development.
  • Knowledge of the effects of emotional, social, economic and cultural influences on children.
  • Knowledge of effective communication skills, techniques, and of standard English language.
  • Knowledge of common mental health interventions including medications.
  • Working knowledge of psychological theories and best practices.
  • Knowledge of facility guidelines and/or contractual agreements, information‑sharing, and confidentiality.
  • Must have a high degree of human relations skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive work relationships with residents, co‑workers, and stakeholders.
  • Model and promote a trauma informed approach with decrease shame responses and increase the concept of unmet needs.
