Position: Library Senior Associate (Community Services) Materials Delivery

Library Senior Associate (Community Services)

Come be a part of the Library Community Services (Materials Delivery) team by providing library materials and information to the public through material delivery services. This is a great opportunity to get out in the Topeka & Shawnee County community and provide library materials and information to our residents through multiple material delivery services. As the Community Services Library Senior Associate some of the things you will do are:

  • Safely operates library vehicles such as cars, trucks, and vans.
  • Obtains and follows all state requirements for maintaining a Kansas issued driver’s license. Follows all departmental requirements including completion of pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection forms, reporting personal driving infractions to supervisors, completing mileage forms, etc.
  • Assists with processing book holds using remote software.
  • Checks out TSCPL at Home and TSCPL at Work items using Polaris software.
  • Organizes delivery using route optimizer software.
  • Sends emails to customers receiving a delivery that day.
  • Provides delivery to assigned route:
    • Delivers library materials to participating At Work sites, book lockers, and At Home customers.
    • Collects returned materials at participating At Work sites, book lockers, At Home customers, and book drops.
    • Loads book lockers and troubleshoots any issues onsite.
    • Updates status of delivered materials using route optimizer.
    • Refuel delivery vehicle as needed.
  • Provides customer service at delivery locations and in the office. Includes assistance in locating library materials, service delivery information, and use of equipment such as book lockers.
  • Communicates with customers in person, by email, and telephone to resolve library account issues.
  • Files and performs data entry tasks that relate to material delivery services such as:
    • Communicates updates to customer address and contact information to Public Service Specialist.
    • Communicates updates to daily delivery instructions to Public Services Specialist.
    • Restocks returned materials.
    • Assists with hold pickup location switches.
    • Processes holds for all material delivery services.
  • Assists other teams in the Community Services department as needed.
  • Assists in daily dock duties.
  • Maintains prompt arrival and efficiently and dependably maintains scheduled hours.
Position Requirements /Preferences

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License with insurable driving record is required.

Preferred:

  • Multi-lingual fluency in English and at least one other language.
Physical Requirements:
  • Bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing materials weighing up to 100 pounds, reaching, the ability to climb stairs, talking on the telephone and stationary work at a computer, and ability to drive motor vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required
:

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong service orientation.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite software applications and Internet searching techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with patrons, volunteers, community partners, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member, be flexible and adapt to a fast-paced work environment.

Preferred
:

  • Knowledge of City/County streets.
  • Strong public service orientation.

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week. Days, nights and some weekend hours are required.

PAY & BENEFITS: Starting hourly rate will be in the range of $16.80 to $18.69 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits including health & dental insurance with pre‑tax premiums, and a retirement plan (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System KPERS). Group life, disability coverage and accidental death benefits are also provided. Other optional benefits available at employee's expense include vision, life and cancer insurance and a deferred compensation plan.
