Laborer Landfill

Job Summary

Performs various tasks in a landfill including containing loose refuse to prevent scattering and directing traffic at the landfill.

• Manually picks up windblown paper from the periphery of the landfill, carrying a large plastic trash bag and walking along the fenced border and exterior land. Deposits refuse in bag until full.
• Uses mobile vacuum to gather loose paper and refuse. Operates tractor to pull vacuum along fenced border and exterior land, vacuums loose paper, then repeats as necessary.
• During heavy traffic summer months, stationed at landfill entrance in a chair to direct truck flow and communicate with drivers verbally or by hand signals.
• Lifts construction materials for site maintenance projects and uses hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, and chainsaws.
• Separates metal, white goods, lumber, and cardboard from trash on tipping floor at landfills with transfer stations.

• Required licenses as mandated by local, state, federal, environmental, and health/safety regulatory agencies.

• Experience performing landfill or waste-management duties is preferred.
• Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) is desirable.

Work involves manual lifting, repetitive movements, lifting of loads, and some working in a high-noise environment with minimal light. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
