Responsibilities

Custodian II is responsible for maintaining and protecting all Yakama Nation Facilities under the responsibility of Yakama Nation Facility Management. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the occupants, so it is important for the Custodian II to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning, and tidying the premises, as well as preventing vandalism. The role requires experience in a custodial position focused on building upkeep, great physical endurance to cover a large space, and a keen eye for detail and diligence.

Perform assigned custodial services to assure the sanitation and cleanliness of the building, specifically all restrooms, doorways, and windows throughout the facility. Perform minor maintenance (carpentry, painting, plumbing) duties as required to repair and/or modify facilities. Operate and use a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, janitorial equipment, and ground‑maintenance equipment as needed. Work is primarily general, manual, routine, and performed regularly.

Examples

of Work Performed
  • Assist in training new employees on supply locations, areas to clean, and required cleaners.
  • Perform maintenance and minor repair (replace broken switches, fix door handles, fix minor leaks).
  • Report major damages to the Operations Supervisor.
  • Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture, and dusting surfaces.
  • Vacuum carpets; sweep and mop floors and stairways.
  • Wash all entrance doorways, clean glass, and both inside and outside at the beginning of shifts. Weather permitting, clean all outside windows, dust, clean windowsills, and entrance doorways daily.
  • Wash and sanitize each restroom daily; restock disposables. Weekly duties include use of strong disinfectants, disinfecting drains, toilets, bowls, and urinals. Clean mirrors, fixtures, stalls, and doorways.
  • Monday through Thursday use mild disinfectants;
    Friday clean all bowls with a stronger cleaner. Bi‑weekly mixes and use special drain cleaners (degreasers).
  • Wash all water fountains and elevator doors.
  • Clean walls and molding throughout the building with wet mop.
  • Clean kitchen in lounge area; clean countertops, sinks, outside of refrigerator and stove daily; once a week clean the stove and refrigerator thoroughly.
  • When the building is used after hours, staff must clean up at the end of meetings.
  • In the absence of one team member, another shift member assumes primary duties.
  • Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting up the alarm.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of standard materials, tools, and equipment for minor maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of cleaning practices and procedures; proper use of equipment and chemicals and correct mixing instructions.
  • Knowledge in safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
  • Skill in the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
  • Skill with attention to detail and conscientiousness.
  • Ability to coordinate work with teammates to stay on schedule.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with co‑workers to support custodial team performance.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions and carry out those instructions.
  • Ability to be self‑motivated and possess the physical condition and strength to perform the work adequately.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and any work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work.
  • At least one to three years of work experience that demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability required.
  • Physically capable of performing strenuous work activities for both indoor and outdoor settings in all weather conditions year‑round.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
  • Required to pass a pre‑employment drug test.
  • Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
