Opportunity

We are looking for a Consultant – Economics Advisory to join our growing Advisory Services team, known in the industry for advising and delivering some of the most innovative and transformative transport infrastructure projects in Canada and the US. Our team continues to grow, and we are keen to engage with experienced individuals from an Economics, Planning, Engineering or other related technical backgrounds with a broad skillset and an ambition to accelerate their career in the infrastructure sector.

You will be leading and managing client engagements providing strategic, economic, technical, and commercial advice related to the planning, development, funding/financing, and procurement of infrastructure and urban development projects. You will work with public agencies and private sponsors to develop projects and programs from inception to start of construction. Projects may include business cases, economic impact assessments, feasibility studies, market assessments, and due diligence.

The role will involve identifying the economic risks & opportunities to project sponsors, and presenting them so our clients can understand the impact on their social and economic goals. The position is based in our Toronto office.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of business cases, cost‑benefit analysis, economic impact assessments, feasibility studies, and market analysis across the transport, property, or energy sectors.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to integrate technical expertise across multiple disciplines to provide quality advice to clients.
  • Advise technical teams and clients on the social and economic impacts of strategic, policy, or project decisions.
  • Lead client and stakeholder interface activities such as meetings, presentations, and workshops, maintaining proactive communications.
  • Manage multiple project engagements at any given time to deliver timely, high‑quality advice to clients, and support the achievement of the commercial results for the firm.
  • Mentor junior staff to develop analytical and consulting skills.
  • Support business development activities for future work and proposal preparation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, planning, engineering, business administration, and/or finance.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in a consulting or public sector role with a track record of managing economics projects, including coordinating across different disciplines and skillsets.
  • Quantitative and analytical skills for cost‑benefit analysis, economic impact analysis, land value analysis, willingness‑to‑pay analysis, and/or economic modelling in the property or infrastructure sectors.
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to understand complex documents and develop concise summaries, reports, and recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills with the ability to effectively articulate and present findings; candidates with the ability to communicate effectively in French are an asset.
  • Interest in providing professional development or mentorship to colleagues.
  • Strong interest in sustainable development and shaping a better world in line with Arup’s values.
  • Willingness and capacity to travel to suit client needs (both domestic and international).
