The primary purpose of the Business Development Consultant (BDC) is to recruit, onboard, coach and develop experienced advisors, contributing to the District s overall success. You will help advisors grow their holistic financial services practice that includes life and health insurance and wealth products.

This role reports to the District Manager and collaborates with the district and regional team.

Markham. Focused on coaching for growth, consulting with experienced advisors, sales-driven approach, strategic mindset, strong knowledge of financial services and relationship management. Join the Sun Life District team and contribute to making a positive difference for Canadians and advisors.

Responsibilities
  • Source new and experienced candidates for the Sun Life advisor role or to join an advisor team, through community contacts and other sources of referrals.
  • Maintain regular contact with referral sources, including advisors, centres of influence and other community partners.
  • Oversee the onboarding plan for new advisors in collaboration with the District team.
  • Partner with the Recruiting Consultant, District Manager and Business Development Partner to participate in recruiting events (e.g., career fairs).
  • Support experienced advisors to deliver holistic business results by providing coaching, training and consulting on market identification, sales planning and joint field work.
  • Guide advisors to head office resources and processes (e.g., Centre of Excellence Teams) for business practice, training and implementation support.
  • Coach and support experienced advisors to create business plans, proposals and implementation plans to achieve business results; align with compliance and other requirements.
  • Provide coaching and training to build skills and address gaps to meet plans/targets.
  • Run business assessments to identify opportunities and improve client engagement and performance.
  • Lead adoption of new business processes and support advisors through implementation.
  • Monitor and manage performance of experienced advisors and ensure alignment to targets.
  • Deliver business results aligned with District and regional targets (sales growth, productivity, client engagement).
  • Ensure compliant operations and support for corrective actions in market conduct audits.
  • Collaborate with the BDP and advisors transitioning between advisor segments to grow practice, including coaching, joint field work and digital tool adoption.
  • Develop the skills and competencies of Graduate advisors and identify potential candidates for Associate Advisors or Alliance opportunities.
  • Achieve key metrics related to recruiting and production.
Required qualifications
  • Business acumen and strong product knowledge (insurance and wealth); good understanding of the local market.
  • Strong sales management and business development skills.
  • Strong mentoring, coaching, performance management and influencing abilities.
  • Strong communication (presentation, written and verbal) and relationship-building skills.
  • Forward thinking, goal-oriented with a focus on achieving targets.
  • Experience leading people through large-scale change within a matrix environment.
  • Business planning and management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of the regulatory environment.
  • Ability to manage a successful performance management process in a sales culture.
  • Qualification and educational requirements
  • University degree with minimum 5 years of related experience in financial services.
  • Valid Life Insurance Agent license in the provincial location; valid Mutual Fund license.
