We’re looking for a proactive, imaginative, and highly motivated Development Advisor to join our Unscripted team. In this role, you will conceptualise and develop a slate of original unscripted audio-led series for Radio One with an opportunity to perform across all platforms (including video, social and digital content). You’re someone who lives and breathes the current audio content landscape. You’re excited to hunt for emerging talent, brainstorm original concepts, and build the kind of pitch materials that get people talking.
You aren’t just thinking about the radio —you’re thinking about how a great story lives across podcast, video, social, and digital spaces, too.
In addition to your deep passion for non-fiction, you bring a sharp strategic lens. You’ll evaluate or generate new ideas not just for their creative spark, but for their ability to align with CBC’s strategy, goals and reach new audiences. You’re always keeping an eye on domestic and international trends, and have a specific curiosity about what’s happening in business, lifestyle, and parenting content.
You’re a collaborator at heart, ready to work closely with internal teams and external producers alike. You enjoy working independently and incubating ideas. You have a proven track record in developing and executing high-quality audio programs, ideally within a major broadcast or podcasting environment. Most importantly, you know and love CBC’s content, and you can see exactly where the gaps and opportunities are for us to grow.
Key Responsibilities- Format Innovation & Slate Development:
Conceptualize a slate of original unscripted series that are audio-first but platform-agnostic, ensuring they align with CBC’s strategic goal to reach younger, diverse audiences. - Strategic Evaluation:
Move beyond the creative spark to evaluate ideas based on reach, brand alignment, and domestic/international market trends. - High-Stakes Pitching:
Develop and build compelling pitch materials (decks, sizzles, or pilots). - Talent Scouting:
Hunt for and cultivate relationships with emerging hosts, producers, and independent creators who represent the future of Canadian media. - Cross-Departmental
Collaboration:
Work closely with the internal development team and content Producers. - Industry Expertise:
Stay current with domestic and international trends in unscripted audio, including new formats, and audience consumption habits. Specific interest in business, lifestyle, and parenting content is a plus.
- Proven Track Record:
Extensive experience in developing and executing high-quality audio programs or podcasts. - The Digital-First Lens: A sophisticated understanding of how audio content translates into video (You Tube), social (Tik Tok/IG), and digital platforms.
- Audience Expertise:
Deep knowledge of the media consumption habits in Canada. - Audio Technical Fluency:
An understanding of the audio production process, including sound design, technical specs, and narrative structure. - CBC Familiarity: A deep familiarity with CBC’s content, with the ability to identify specific spaces for growth.
- Communication Excellence:
The ability to communicate complex creative visions with clarity and to “sell” an idea.
This role can be done from anywhere in the country. This is a unique opportunity to shape the sound of a nation. If you’re ready to build something new, we want to hear from you.
