Call for Volunteers:
The Christie Pits Riot 90th Commemoration

The Ontario Jewish Archives is partnering with the Toronto District School Board’s Jewish and Italian Heritage Committees to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Christie Pits Riot for Jewish and Italian heritage months. At the centre of this exciting program is a live onsite theatrical performance by Hogtown Productions, created by Sam Rosenthal and Drew Carnwath with music by Measha Brueggergosman.

The program is designed for grades 8 & 10.

The OJA is seeking 2-3 volunteers per show. They will work under the guidance of Hogtown Productions’ stage managers who will position them in certain areas around the northern end of Christie Pits park. They will have several duties including:

  • Holding up a small sign that says "SHOW IN PROGRESS"
  • Keeping a watchful eye as the groups of audience members move from scene to scene.
  • Guiding late comers and those who come from the subway to the correct starting point.

Schedule

  • May 9-June 16, 2023
  • Tuesdays-Fridays (no performances on Mondays)
  • 10:00am & 1:30pm performance times
  • Total number of performances: 48
  • Total number of volunteer placement times: 96-144
  • Volunteers are welcome to work more than one shift if interested and available.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about fashion, art, and design who enjoys inspiring creativity and confidence in young learners.

This is a hands‑on, in‑house role for an early‑career designer who will help bring campaigns, programs, and events to life.

Stories featuring Kultura Collective members and member organizations.

Rosette Sund is an artist and educator. She recently installed the "Silhouettes of Survival" project at the Toronto Holocaust Museum.
