About This Role

Toronto Life is looking for a Digital and Social Editor to work on the brand’s end-to-end digital presence—driving audience growth and shaping our editorial voice across platforms.

This is a hands‑on role: equal parts strategist, editor and operator. You’ll manage the digital roadmap alongside day‑to‑day publishing across web, social and newsletters. You’ll also liaise with various departments in the company to achieve an integrated flow.

The Digital and Social Editor is responsible for defining how Toronto Life shows up online—what we cover, how we package it, and how we reach and grow our audience. In collaboration with the senior editorial team, you will contribute to the content strategy and execution across web, email, and social, using data to inform decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Help to lead Toronto Life’s digital content strategy across web, newsletters, and social
  • Build and manage forward‑looking content calendars that integrate editorial, print and commercial priorities
  • Run audience review meetings and translate ideas into clear, actionable content plans
  • Assign, edit and publish editorial content of varying length and focus for web
  • Maintain a distinct, elevated and on‑brand voice across all digital platforms
  • Manage the homepage
  • Edit and package stories for performance (headlines, decks, SEO, internal linking, recirculation)
  • Monitor analytics to inform coverage decisions and content strategy
  • Share regular performance insights and apply learnings to improve output
  • Partner with product, SEO, and development teams to optimize site experience
Social Media & Audience Growth
  • Oversee content calendars, publishing and platform‑specific storytelling approaches
  • Ideate, create, and/or approve social content (Reels, Tik Toks, Carousels, Stories)
  • Collaborate on cover launches, tentpoles and real‑time event coverage
Content Creation & Multiplatform Storytelling
  • Contribute to and edit digital content across formats, including features, quick hits, and service‑driven stories
  • Produce or oversee video and social‑first storytelling formats
  • Be comfortable appearing on camera or directing talent when needed
  • Work with SJC’s in‑house video team on new series and video franchise ideation and execution
Operations, Workflow & AI Integration
  • Streamline editorial workflows across platforms, identifying efficiencies and reducing bottlenecks
  • Integrate AI tools into content creation, packaging, analytics and workflow automation
  • Manage freelancers and interns, fostering strong digital instincts and editorial judgment and providing clear feedback
  • Collaborate with editorial, design, video and commercial teams
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation, accountability and digital‑first thinking
Brand Representation
  • Represent Toronto Life at industry events and key cultural moments
  • Build relationships with brands, PRs, creators, and industry stakeholders
  • Contribute to broader brand initiatives, including print and experiential activations
Qualifications
  • Five years of experience in digital editorial, social media, or content strategy
  • Proven track record of driving audience growth and engagement across digital platforms
  • Deep understanding of Toronto as a city—its people, places, history.
