Senior Writer – CBC News Network (Weekends, English Services)

• Pitch, create and write accurate, engaging, clear content for live programming.
• Generate breaking news copy rapidly, source and process visuals, and deploy treatments to aid viewer understanding.
• Track stories, conduct research to ensure up-to-date and accurate information and video.
• Collaborate with colleagues across platforms, vet material written or produced by others.
• Tell stories using CBC News Network on-screen elements, strategically use visual components.
• Edit, mix, and/or direct editing and mixing of audio/visual elements.
• Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, meet strict deadlines, deliver quality work.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.

• Minimum five years recent experience in a daily live news environment.
• Minimum three years experience writing for broadcast news.
• Excellent writing, editing, production skills; university degree or equivalent.
• Demonstrated news judgment and understanding of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
• Broad range of interests: politics, business, science, sports, entertainment, popular culture, technology, health and medicine.
• In-depth knowledge of Canadian and international news and current affairs.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to juggle multiple assignments quickly and efficiently, meeting deadlines.
• Experience using iNews, DTV, Vizrt and Avid Instinct; familiarity with graphic templates.
• Open to experimenting with new approaches and content for multiple platforms.
• Lives and promotes inclusive and respectful work culture; knowledge of underrepresented communities across Canada.
• Possibility of skills and knowledge testing.
