Position: Assistant Designer, Graphics – Packaging (6 Months Contract )

Job Description

Assistant Designer, Graphics will provide support in the creation of unique, original and engaging graphics and art to be used in production of Indigo product, packaging and other internal initiatives.

This role collaborates closely with internal packaging and graphic senior designer(s) to ensure the Indigo brand is communicated in a strong and consistent manner, inspiring and engaging our customers.

Key Accountabilities
  • Assist in the design and creation of impactful graphics, typography and artwork for proprietary products, packaging and other initiatives, as directed.
  • Collaborate with design leads on original creative concepts that meet the given project's overall objectives and support the brand's creative and visual guidelines.
  • Responsible for graphics and artwork from inception to final product, resizing and reformatting images; packaging, typography and artwork for private brand studio and hybrid packaging projects.
  • Research and recommend stock illustrations and patterns for purchase.
  • Retouch and recolour purchased prints and images to ensure cohesion with the seasons concept and brand aesthetic.
  • Stay up‑to‑date and informed of emerging trends, ensuring Indigo's packaging and graphics artwork meet the highest design, quality and content standards.
  • Prioritize creative demands to execute against deliverables in a timely manner.

Collaborate with others to drive flexible and iterative solutions, quickly and easily; share technical knowledge with others and actively seek to learn from those more knowledgeable than yourself.

Qualifications

Post‑secondary degree or diploma in graphic design or a design‑related field.

Minimum 1 year of experience designing for retail considered an asset.

Competencies / Skills / Attributes
  • Thorough understanding and ability in graphic design, page layout and typography.
  • Knowledge in graphics manipulation using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Procreate.
  • Robust conceptual skills.
  • Self‑motivator with a passion for graphic design.
  • Dynamic, driven, good‑listener, team‑oriented, with ability to handle and learn from constructive criticism.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and responding to shifting priorities.
  • Branding and package design experience an asset.
