Full time – Sunday to Thursday, full on‑site presence required.
We create content that informs, entertains, and connects Canadians. As the senior producer, you will lead and coordinate the Ontario Service, providing editorial leadership for Fresh Air and Ontario Morning and ensuring provincial audio content reaches the widest possible audience.
Key Tasks- Provide editorial oversight for Fresh Air and Ontario Morning
- Identify and oversee distribution of provincial and regional content—including interviews, debriefs, and tape—among stations across the province
- Vet local scripts to ensure they speak to a provincial audience
- Cut and distribute audio from shows that could work for other newsrooms, as needed
- Act as point of contact and coordinate between local newsrooms and provincial current affairs shows
- Liaise with Queen’s Park team to program and distribute live and packaged audio content
- Coordinate with CBC News teams during breaking news situations to ensure relevant content is served
- Assist with breaking news coverage, as needed
- Communicate with and share Ontario content with Syndicated Audio
- Support Ontario weekend copy editor
- Ensure teams adhere to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
- University degree or equivalent
- At least seven (7) years’ experience, of which at least three in broadcasting or a closely related industry
- Solid journalistic skills, highly developed writing for broadcast and vetting experience
- Passion for local storytelling and ability to identify audience‑focused stories
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills; sense of humour essential
- Advanced critical thinking and organizational skills
- Mindset of continuous learning and evolution
- Demonstrated ability to react to breaking news
- Strong leadership and coaching skills, with a track record of mentoring and encouraging creativity
- Highly developed audio production skills; ability to produce a variety of program formats
- Strong audio editing skills
- Understanding of CBC’s journalistic standards and practices
- Knowledge of diverse regions of Ontario and experience telling stories of underrepresented communities
- Proven track record of reflecting diversity of voices in programming
- Keen eye and ear for news and current affairs story development
- Ability to make decisions under deadline pressure
- Ability to manage simultaneous activities, plan, prioritize, and analyze complex issues
- Willingness to work long and unpredictable hours, including evenings and weekends
- Ability to undergo skills and knowledge testing if required
