Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the CBC News You Tube and Tik Tok accounts.
  • Work with other CBC News teams to optimize curation of video for the CBC News App and
  • Develop and execute CBC News’s off‑platform video strategy and best practices.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback to teams on audience needs, publishing fundamentals, and curation for all video channels.
  • Design and run data‑driven experiments to understand evolving audience behaviour.
  • Provide and interpret audience data to inform programming decisions and guide content development.
  • Work with other audience‑focused leaders to communicate audience insights and context to daily news teams.
  • Stay current with best practices in digital, and video storytelling and ensure staff training reflects them.
  • Ensure strong performance across all platforms and take accountability for results.
  • Work closely with others to get breaking news video to the audience quickly and cohesively.
  • Make data‑informed decisions to meet audience and strategic goals.
  • Partner with CBC News leaders in local newsrooms on best practices in video packaging, including thumbnails, titles, posting cadence, and platform‑specific formats.
  • Monitor trends across digital media and adapt workflows and publishing strategies as needed.
  • Coordinate live event streams with internal CBC News teams.
  • Collaborate with graphics and marketing teams to optimize visual assets and audience engagement.
  • Use key production tools (DTV, Media Central, Dalet, Adobe, FTP, Dejero, 9

    CMS).
  • Make quick editorial decisions under pressure in complex, time‑sensitive environments.
  • Plan and request the resources required for daily news coverage on video platforms.
  • Ensure content corrections and takedowns are performed responsibly and according to JSP standards.
  • Work in collaboration with other CBC News leaders on our moderation strategy.
  • Direct and oversee staff scheduling.
  • Solve operational and editorial challenges creatively.
Skills & Experience
  • Minimum seven years of recent leadership experience working with digital video in a breaking news environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assign, motivate, and develop staff, including large teams.
  • Experience working with news programs and identifying opportunities for digital/social alignment.
  • Excellent editorial judgment and a strong understanding of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Deep knowledge of social and video‑sharing platforms and their audience behaviours, You Tube in particular.
  • Intimate knowledge and experience producing different video formats, such as vertical and mobile‑optimized storytelling.
  • Experience in graphic design is an asset.
  • Proven passion for strong journalism, innovative video storytelling, and sharp, effective writing.
  • Experience in copy editing, fact‑checking, packaging, and production across platforms.
  • Ability to learn and troubleshoot complex technical systems and content‑management tools.
  • Comfortable with constant change; able to adapt, communicate clearly, and maintain composure.
  • Experience working with emerging partnerships and platforms, with an eye toward audience evolution.
  • Multiplatform production experience is an asset.
  • Understanding of audience experience, graphics, design, development, and digital accessibility workflows.
  • Experience interpreting audience analytics and applying them to editorial and strategic decisions.
  • Strong coaching skills and ability to train staff quickly.
  • Cultural awareness, openness, and collaborative communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and navigate unexpected overtime.
  • University degree or equivalent experience.
