Your role

CBC is looking for a creative and resourceful Producer to join the Arts and Life Video Team and execute our You Tube video strategy. Working under the direction of the Senior Producer, Unscripted Video, the successful candidate will manage the CBC Arts You Tube channel. CBC Arts is entering a new phase on You Tube, with an expanded publishing plan and a new digital series in development.

Working in close partnership with the CBC Arts editorial team, the successful candidate will bring this plan to life. They’ll publish videos produced by creators and independent producers, and produce original in-house content for the channel. This is a 12-month contract.

The role combines channel management and hands‑on content production. The ideal candidate is obsessed with You Tube and has a deep understanding of the platform. They live in You Tube Studio, can tell what makes a thumbnail worth the click without being clickbaity, and understand how to read retention curves. They have produced long‑form digital videos and published them on You Tube.

They also have experience repackaging long‑form content into Shorts. They’re comfortable working independently with freelance crews and collaborating with internal stakeholders to bring an editorial vision to digital video. Background in arts or culture is a plus.

Key tasks
  • Run day‑to‑day operation of the CBC Arts You Tube channel, following the outlined channel strategy and balancing in‑house production with content delivered by Creator Network and Video Team.
  • Own packaging across the channel, including writing titles, creating or commissioning thumbnails with input from internal stakeholders.
  • Evaluate video performance, run A/B tests and iterate based on results.
  • Working closely with the Senior Producer, monitor channel analytics in You Tube Studio and use them to inform what gets produced next.
  • Produce in‑house CBC Arts original content from concept to publication. Plan the production, direct freelance editors, shooters and motion designers. Give feedback that gets work where it needs to be.
  • Manage media for in‑house productions, including footage and asset organization.
  • Coordinate and maintain the publishing schedule, metadata and end screens across the channel.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Producer, Unscripted Video and the CBC Arts editorial team on slate planning and ideation.
  • Audit and repackage existing CBC Arts content for republication.
  • Stay up to date with what’s working on You Tube across arts, culture and adjacent channels.
As required, performs the following tasks
  • Perform final edit and necessary paperwork/reports.
  • Direct talent, sound and/or image.
  • Ensure, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material.
  • Assign, co‑ordinate and supervise the work of the freelance crew who contribute to the production of in‑house CBC Arts content.
  • Arrange for, and conduct interviews.
  • Provide talent and crew with feedback to assist their performance.
  • Conceive and develop ideas for digital video content.
  • Develop specific story ideas and pieces including researching, writing and/or editing of video material.
