Work at CBC/Radio-Canada

At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.

Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry?

Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.

In a world where audiences have more video choices than ever before, we have an exciting opportunity for a collaborative team player who wants that choice to be CBC News journalism.

We're hiring an Associate Producer to join our video distribution team. The role is essential in ensuring our best-of visual journalism is reaching the widest available audience possible at home and around the world.

You work closely with other producers and do the hands-on work to package and deliver video content to internal and external clients.

You're a first-rate news writer and video editor with proven abilities as a visual storyteller. You are a strong journalist, well-versed in packaging, transcoding and distributing video content across multiple formats. That includes digital platforms, linear channels and newscasts as well as third-party platforms and clients.

You keep apprised of changing video storytelling techniques, tools, styles and emerging technologies. You are open to exploring new ways of creating content that is distinctive and innovative.

You know what's making news and are able to pivot quickly to turn live breaking news into on-demand video to share. You'll be identifying the strongest visuals to share across CBC News audience-facing digital properties as well as third-parties.

You ensure that content meets the high quality and editorial standards our partners expect from CBC News. An experienced journalist, you're comfortable making independent editorial decisions in accordance with CBC News Journalistic Standards and Practices.

You're a collaborative team player who communicates with clarity and welcomes feedback as an opportunity to learn and to grow. You bring a unique lived experience to the team, and are open to creating an inclusive team culture, respecting a broad range of opinion, perspective and voices. You strive to ensure the CBC journalism you share is reflective of contemporary society.

This is a permanent, full-time position, five days a week, Saturday to Wednesday. The scheduled hours will be determined based on production needs in supporting a 24/7 public service broadcaster as well as media clients around the world, and could include early mornings, evenings and some overtime.

Your core responsibilities:
  • Identify and make available visual storytelling opportunities for distribution across CBC News and external media clients in consultation with a producer.
  • Track and respond to requests and deliver video content when available to syndication partners such as EBU (European Broadcasting Union), NBC, CNN and others via our internal management system.
  • Cut, transcode and distribute video from material shot by CBC colleagues, or from CBC News Network, our 24/7 live and breaking news channel, ensuring adherence to quality standards including required metadata.
  • Some audience-facing publishing work may be required, including writing text, titles, thumbnail…
