Job Description
Summary: The Senior Project Accountant is responsible for managing the full project accounting lifecycle for multiple large-scale development projects. With strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently, the Senior Project Accountant will interact regularly with internal departments as well as external consultants, contractors, lenders, and ownership groups.
As a senior member of the Finance team, this position contributes to financial reporting, contract compliance, forecasting, budgeting, and project performance analysis. The Senior Project Accountant also participates in process improvements and supports the strengthening of financial procedures within the department.
What you'll get to do:
Contract & Compliance Oversight:
Review, interpret, and ensure compliance with project, contractor, consultant, and lender agreements.Align accounting processes with contractual, legal, and project requirements.Provide guidance to the project team on financial obligations, documentation, and compliance risks.Billing, Payments & Financial Controls:
Lead the monthly progress billing cycle including collection, review, approval, and processing of contractor and consultant invoices.Prepare and submit financial reporting packages, including monthly/quarterly draw applications, equity cash calls, lender reporting, budget vs. actual analysis, and ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation for all submissions.Month-End & Full-Cycle Accounting:
Manage month-end close activities for assigned projects, including journal entries, accruals, bank reconciliations, and variance analyses.Monitor project budgets, commitments, change orders, and cost-to-complete calculations.Support external audits, year-end reporting, and internal controls.Tax & Regulatory Compliance:
Prepare, file, and reconcile HST returns for assigned entities.Respond to CRA inquiries, audit requests, and information reviews.Stakeholder Partnership:
Work closely with project managers, development teams, and corporate finance.Participate in project meetings, provide financial insights, and support strategic decision-making.Conduct periodic site visits and maintain strong communication with internal and external partners.Continuous Improvement & Leadership:
Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting efficiency.Contribute to policy development and implementation of best practices.Provide guidance and informal mentorship to junior team members where needed.Who you are:
Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.Five plus (5+) years of progressive accounting experience, with at least three (3) years in project accounting within construction or real estate development (high-rise, residential, or mixed-use preferred).CPA designation or actively pursuing (near completion).Demonstrated experience managing full accounting cycles for complex, multi-million-dollar projects.Advanced proficiency in Excel and strong command of MS Office applications.Experience working with accounting/ERP platforms such as Yardi, Acumatica, Vista by Viewpoint, Timberline/Sage, or comparable systems.Comfortable using collaboration and documentation tools including Teams, SharePoint, and Confluence.Familiarity with project management platforms such as Procore or Plan Grid.Highly analytical, detail-focused, and exceptionally organized.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.Proactive and solution-oriented, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Demonstrates sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.Greenwin Corp. is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse workforce representative of the communities we serve and providing an accessible environment.
