An exciting opportunity is available to play a key role in supporting our financial reporting under IFRS
17. Reporting to the US IFRS Projects Actuary, this Associate Actuary role will define solutions for IFRS
17 valuation and reporting, gain deep understanding of Manulife’s sophisticated products, and work with a large group of seasoned actuarial and accounting professionals.
The position offers opportunities for interaction across the organization, with management and peers in US Finance, US Insurance, US Actuarial Shared Services, and Group Actuarial functions.
Position Responsibilities- Support research and investigations on given projects, including understanding the problem and its implications, producing analysis, developing solutions, presenting recommendations, and supporting implementation.
- Drive key projects to develop strong capabilities to understand and explain earnings under IFRS
17 for UL, VUL, and IUL products, implement robust controls in reserves, minimize unexplained movements, and review reserving for new business. Automation will be a key focus. - Support valuation solutions to streamline the reporting process and provide actuarial expertise.
- Support development of tools and methods that streamline processes, reduce manual work, limit errors, and provide actuarial expertise.
- Build thought leadership, provide training, and create training material to support team education on valuation topics, including on‑job training for the valuation team.
- Work closely with line actuaries and collaborate with professionals such as modeling, pricing, accounting, group actuarial functions, in‑force management, NAIC valuation, and others.
- FSA/FCIA qualification.
- Proactive, self‑directed, and able to work independently and drive projects forward.
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a challenging and dynamic work environment.
- Detail oriented, with excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to a wide audience.
- Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from various areas.
- Knowledge of IFRS
17 actuarial principles. - Prior financial reporting experience and/or familiarity with US products.
If you are applying to this role in Massachusetts, the salary range is $92,475 USD – $160,290 USD.
Requested location:
Toronto, Ontario. Salary range in Toronto is $ CAD – $ CAD.
