Senior Manager - Actuarial P & C
The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and strategic actuarial professional to join our team as a Senior Manager within our P&C Actuarial Team. The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality actuarial advice and counsel within the Canadian P&C insurance market. This role leads actuarial valuation and pricing initiatives, provides technical guidance on insurance liabilities, supports regulatory and financial reporting requirements, and manages a high‑performing actuarial team.

- Lead the valuation of insurance contract liabilities in accordance with applicable actuarial standards and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as, or support, the Appointed Actuary function, including preparation of regulatory opinions, reports, and presentations to senior leadership and regulators.
- Conduct Price Adequacy Reviews and profitability analyses across multiple lines of business and support regulatory rate submissions as applicable.
- Apply predictive analytics and other actuarial techniques to perform differential pricing analysis and identify rating opportunities.
- Lead delivery of capital modelling and Financial Condition Testing engagements, providing technical direction on stochastic modelling, scenario development, and model validation, and clearly communicating results to support executive decision‑making and regulatory compliance.
- Provide strategic actuarial insights to underwriting, finance, and executive leadership teams.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 10 actuarial analysts and junior staff members, fostering technical growth and collaboration.
- Review and validate actuarial models, assumptions, methodologies, and documentation.
- Support financial reporting, reserve analysis, and business planning initiatives.
- Communicate complex actuarial concepts clearly and effectively through written reports, presentations, and stakeholder discussions.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and actuarial best practices.
- Fellow or near‑Fellow designation with a recognized actuarial organization (e.g., FCAS, FCIA, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 10 years of actuarial experience within the P&C insurance industry.
- Demonstrated experience in the valuation of insurance contract liabilities.
- Experience acting in an Appointed Actuary capacity or supporting Appointed Actuary responsibilities.
- Proven experience conducting Price Adequacy Reviews and applying GLMs and/or other predictive modelling techniques for differential pricing analysis.
- Strong leadership experience managing and developing teams, including direct oversight of junior actuarial staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Arius software is considered an asset.
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen.
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence across departments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high‑quality work within tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to professional excellence.
- Bilingualism/proficiency in French is considered an asset.
