Interim Head of Finance

A national professional services firm and leader in its field, is seeking an Interim Head of Finance (Director) to conduct a thorough assessment of the accounting group and provide recommendations to elevate the function and improve its ability to partner with the business. The interim leader will manage a large team of finance professionals that are responsible for providing critical support within a high-standard, high-demand environment.

This is a unique opportunity to make an impact for an experienced contractor or those that may wish to be considered for the permanent position.

• Oversee accounting all functional areas of accounting including accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, payroll and all back‑office accounting.
• Evaluate and review the finance function and identify, develop and execute technical accounting best practices to improve accuracy and increase efficiency while ensuring compliance.
• Improve timely responses to internal queries for information and/or assistance.
• Take an active role in fostering a culture of continual learning, taking risks without the fear of making mistakes, embrace, champion and influence change.
• Maintain a high level of strategic foresight by identifying customer and business needs, and adjusting departmental and team objectives accordingly.
• Lead, oversee and champion all change management initiatives.
• Review and ensure accuracy of analysis, management reports and financial statements on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
• Provide cash flow visibility and forecasts to the senior finance team and manage the cash position according to the needs of the business.
• Proactively identify and anticipate internal customer expectations & needs and always place them at the forefront of all design and decision‑making processes.
• Support, evaluate and make recommendations on opportunities to streamline existing functions, eliminate redundancies and develop core processes and systems across the company.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to the finance team and broader organization.

• A proven finance leader who has successfully led high performing finance teams within professional services (accounting, law, or management consulting).
• Director to VP level experience (at least five years) with increasing leadership roles, including leading large teams having a mix of transactional and professional staff.
• Passion for transforming, fixing and building accounting functions.
• Collaborative. A true team player who sees finance as a partner to the business. Strong customer-service mind‑set.
• Ability to focus and lead others towards value creation. Demonstrated success at building teams and creating followership.
• Reputation as a “doer” working alongside his/her team within the business.
• Has leveraged excellence/performance improvement initiatives and has taken a company to new levels of performance. Proven track record at leading transformational change.
• Superior analytical skills. Has demonstrated the ability to be a quick study in coming to understand a business and its triggers or leverage points. Brings an inquisitive mind and intellectual curiosity.
• Pace, energy and endurance. Demonstrates a high capacity for work and able to manage stress and complexity under pressure.
