Position: Vice President of Finance (Life Science/manufacturing

Our direct client is looking for a VP of Finance that has a background with the Life Science or Diagnostics industry background for a full-time direct hire in the Mississauga / Toronto, Canada area.

Qualifications
  • Proven startup experience in a high-growth or early-stage environment
  • Deep manufacturing finance expertise, with preference for in-house production (outsourced manufacturing experience acceptable)
  • Demonstrated experience scaling in-house manufacturing operations from a finance perspective
  • Hands‑on leadership of ERP implementation(s) and financial systems buildout
  • Led a company through its first-ever external audit, establishing processes, controls, and audit readiness from the ground up
  • Led or co‑led a late‑stage equity raise (Series C or later preferred)
  • Strong, hands‑on FP&A; leadership, including advanced financial modeling
  • Executed or supported at least one M&A; transaction
  • Working expertise in both GAAP and IFRS
  • Experience with in an FDA‑regulated environment (e.g., life sciences, diagnostics, medical devices)
  • Experience managing government funding programs, such as SR&ED; and grants
  • Life sciences Industry includes pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment

You are a strategic and hands‑on finance leader with deep experience in fast‑paced, innovative environments. You excel at building financial systems, analysis frameworks, and team cultures that support both discipline and agility. Adept at managing complex budgets, commercial partnerships, and cross‑functional collaboration, you bring a pragmatic, proactive approach to driving growth, operational efficiency, and compliance in the life sciences sector.

Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field;
  • Advanced degree (MBA, CPA, CFA) preferred.
  • CPA – is highly preferred
  • 15 - 20 years of experience in Finance
  • 3 years of experience as VP/SVP of Finance
  • Strong experience in Life sciences, biotech, diagnostics, or a regulated technology environment.
  • Track record of building, scaling, and leading finance teams in high‑growth, entrepreneurial settings.
  • Deep expertise in financial modeling, analytics, compliance, and process improvement.
  • Experience supporting board‑level communications, investor relations, and fundraising.
  • Strong collaborative skills and business acumen; ability to partner with technical and commercial leaders.
  • Familiarity with ERP/accounting systems and reporting from early‑stage through commercial‑scale operations.
  • Experience partnering with executives on a rapid in‑house scale up of manufacturing in the diagnostics or life sciences field
  • Experience with standard cost and lean experience
  • Experience with financing capex
  • Diagnostics or life science tool experience is a must have
  • Experience from development through launch
  • Exposure to raising capital / fundraising.
  • Experience with Start Up company
Responsibilities
  • Lead and Build the Finance team, overseeing all aspects of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audit, and compliance for a growing diagnostics business.
  • Serve as a key executive partner in strategic planning, business modeling, market expansion, fundraising, and board communications.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize systems, processes, and controls for financial operations—including AP/AR, payroll, cash management, risk management, and internal reporting.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, and commercial teams to support recent product launches, project prioritization, and operational planning.
  • Analyze financial data to guide business strategy, pricing, capital allocation, and resource management.
  • Manage relationships with external partners—accountants, banks, investors, vendors, and auditors—ensuring compliance, transparency, and value creation.
  • Oversee financial diligence and modeling for fundraising, M&A, partnership, and licensing activities.
  • Support regulatory filings, grant reporting, and ad‑hoc requests.
  • Foster and mentor high‑performing teams, promoting a culture of discipline, innovation, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

Life sciences Industry includes pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
