Summary: The Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial reporting, corporate accounting, and overall accounting functions of the organization. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information related to corporate entities and development operations through timely financial reporting, account reconciliations, budgeting support, and financial analysis. The Accountant collaborates closely with finance, development, and management teams to provide meaningful financial insights and support informed business decision‑making.
Whatyou'll get to do:
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for corporate entities.
- Prepare and post recurring and non‑recurring journal entries, including intercompany transactions and consolidating adjustments.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records.
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections for corporate entities and development operations.
- Monitor project costs, commitments, and budgets to ensure accurate financial tracking of development activities.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, identifying key variances and trends.
- Prepare financial analyses and management reporting to support strategic decision‑making.
- Collaborate with development and construction teams to ensure project financial information is current and accurate.
- Prepare periodic financial reporting packages for Joint Venture partners, lenders, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee the resolution of invoice discrepancies and coordinate with vendors and consultants as required.
- Monitor accounts payable records and support timely payment processing.
- Support with cheque runs, electronic payments, and treasury‑related activities.
- Serve as a point of escalation for vendor and internal inquiries related to invoices and payments.
- Provide oversight of cash management, bank account reconciliations, and corporate treasury functions.
- Monitor cash balances and support short‑term cash flow planning and reporting.
- Ensure accounting processes comply with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with audit requests and provide supporting schedules and analyses as required.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencies.
- Assist with the preparation of tax working papers, HST filings, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Support annual external audits and year‑end financial statement preparation.
- Prepare and reconcile intercompany accounts across multiple legal entities.
- Assist with monthly and quarterly consolidation processes.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Support special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as required.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties to support the finance team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 3‑5 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within a property management, development, or construction field.
- Strong understanding of full‑cycle accounting, including month‑end close, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with ERP systems is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with the capacity to identify discrepancies, investigate variances, and recommend solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with finance, development, construction, and external stakeholders.
- Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- CPA designation or actively pursuing (near completion).
