Our client, a large global insurance company, is seeking a Senior Accountant to lead preparation and presentation of management results and client profitability analysis, and to drive the timely, accurate financial close for North American legal entities. This role also supports automation, financial system enhancements, new reporting/analytics implementations, and process improvement initiatives.
This is a hybrid role with three days per week in our downtown Toronto office (walking distance from Union).
Responsibilities:Reinsurance accounting & analysis
- Lead core financial processes for premiums, commissions and other cash flows, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Monitor client data, perform reconciliations and resolve transactional/reporting issues.
- Prepare complex profit commission reporting and act as a primary contact for internal stakeholders.
- Maintain and test key accounting controls to support an effective control environment.
- Track KPIs, investigate variances, and recommend process improvements.
- Design and implement accounting and reporting processes for new accounts or contracts to meet client and external reporting needs.
- Document significant processes and accounting treatments to support governance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial and operational topics; support external and internal audits.
- Produce business-line reporting to meet internal stakeholder needs.
- Coordinate regularly with Pricing, Claims, Actuarial, Operations, IT and other teams.
- Manage quarterly reporting for premium estimates, outstanding claims estimates and other client balances.
- Oversee quarterly actuals and forecasts in the local ledger to support internal management and statutory reporting.
- Provide ad hoc analytical support to close quarterly technical results.
- Lead user testing for accounting system upgrades.
- Support automation initiatives to improve transaction processing efficiency.
- Contribute to special projects implementing new reporting and analytics tools.
- 6–8 years’ relevant industry experience; insurance accounting/reporting experience is an asset.
- University degree in Finance/Business with Accounting focus; CPA required.
- IFRS 9 & IFRS 17 knowledge is considered a huge asset.
- Completion or progress on insurance-related courses is an asset.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook).
- Experience with Oracle Fusion, Power BI, SQL is an asset.
- Proven ability to work in teams, improve processes and leverage technology to enhance client service.
- Comfortable working under tight deadlines with multiple priorities; results-oriented.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation:The compensation for this role is $90,000 - $108,000 base salary plus 5% bonus.
