Associate, Leveraged Finance

Role Summary  We are seeking a highly motivated and adaptable individual to join our high‑performing team as an Associate in the Capital Solutions Group in the Credit Investments department in Toronto. This role will be focused on the Americas Leveraged Finance strategy which invests in corporate debt of non‑investment‑grade sponsored and non‑sponsored issuers in North and Latin America. As an Associate, you will have the opportunity to work in small teams, evaluate investment opportunities, conduct due diligence, develop recommendations, prepare for investment committee meetings, participate in the negotiation and execution of investments, and monitor and manage investments.

Credit Investments currently manages assets in excess of $80.5billion; investment deal sizes range from $50M to over $1B. The Credit Investments team has over 147 investment professionals across North America, Europe and Asia. The Americas Leveraged Finance team specializes in both liquid and illiquid debt across the capital structure in the primary and secondary markets, including first lien loans, second lien loans, unitranche loans, high‑yield bonds, convertible bonds, bridges, mezzanine debt, and preferred equity.
Accountabilities   Research, analyze and evaluate credit investment opportunities across the capital structure
Assist in the negotiation of key deal terms, including legal documentation, and running a full private deal process
Lead the development of financial models to assist in investment evaluation, structuring and financing
Oversee preparation of analytical investment reviews and recommendations including industry overviews, written investment rationales and due diligence reviews
Assist in presenting investment recommendations to Investment Committees
Collaborate and manage relationships with various counter parties both internally and externally (investment banks, private equity sponsors, other lenders, etc.)
Develop relationships with management teams as part of monitoring portfolio companies’
Manage and guide the work of junior team members and assist departmental initiatives, processes and meetings
Qualifications   2 to 4+ years of experience post‑undergraduate studies in either credit investing, private equity or financial services firm focused on leveraged finance, debt capital markets, corporate banking, or investment banking
Strong critical thinking, analytical and research skills, including experience evaluating and building financial models
Solid, demonstrated oral and written communication skills
Experience in conducting complicated due diligence work under a compressed timeline, contributing to deal sourcing activities and working with external stakeholders (e.g., management, sponsors, investment banks, etc.)
Ability to provide insightful thoughts regarding relative value across the capital structure and between different credits
Desire to live in Toronto and some travelling
Strong intellectual curiosity, a fast learner, and a team player
